Precast Concrete Tanks Installation Specifications
All products produced by Pre-Con Limited are manufactured according to the CSA specifications, certification number LM 95911.
The following are installation procedures recommended for precast concrete tanks.
- The tank should not be installed where surface water will pool such as low areas or near eaves downspout.
- The excavation should be at least 6" larger than the tank on all sides.
- The bottom of the excavation to be level and free from rocks and lumps which may cause damage to the concrete tank. A 4" layer of fine sand is recommended for the bottom of the excavation.
- After the tank has been set in the hole, the excavation should be backfilled with sand or gravel at least around the tank. Heavy clay as backfill is not recommended.
- The burial depths are as stated on the CSA certification tag attached to each tank.
- No vehicle should be driven over the installed concrete tank at any time. Tanks are not designed for live loads.
- All concrete tanks manufactured by Pre-Con Limited are wet cast with monolithic wall and floor construction. This manufacturing method eliminates risk of leakage or infiltration from high water table. Regulations governing depth of burial in high water table circumstances are available from the Department of Public Health. A permit must be obtained from the Department in all cases either by the owner or the contractor.
